5 Nodes Free

Renew Your 5 Nodes Free License

If you're a home or student user with an existing 5 Nodes Free key, you can apply to renew your license key and retain the 5 node allocation. Please complete the form, and we'll send you a new 5 nodes free license key 14 days before your current license expires.

If you do not currently have a 5 Nodes Free license key, this program has ended and has been replaced with the 3 Nodes Free program. Renewal of 5 Nodes Free licenses is only available to non-commercial users with existing 5 Nodes Free licenses.

Important notes:

  • We will delay the send of your new key until 14 days before your current license expiry date.
  • This process is reserved solely for non-commercial (home and student) users who have a 5 nodes key that is expiring and who require 4 or 5 nodes.
  • If you're a home or student user that needs 3 nodes or less, please go to our switch to a 3 Nodes Free license page.
  • If you're using Portainer in a commercial enterprise or business setting, our 5 nodes free program is no longer available to you. We would be grateful for your support if you can switch to a paid subscription. Visit our pricing page for more information.

Frequently asked questions

What's a Node?

A Node is a physical or virtual device running a container runtime. View What’s a Node for licensing purposes? for more information.

Can I move my license to another Portainer instance?

If for some reason you need to move the server that your Portainer instance is on, you have temporary (must not exceed 7 days) permission to move your license key to an additional instance. As soon as the move is complete, you must remove the license key from the older server. Other than this, your license key must not be used in more than one instance.

Are the 5 nodes really free?

Yes, for home users who previously signed up for our 5 nodes program, and who need 4 or 5 nodes, you can renew your 5 nodes license. If you're a business user, or if you're a home user who needs 3 nodes or less, please switch to a 3 Nodes Free license instead.

What happens if I exceed my node count?

You are legally obliged to respect the node count as outlined in our terms, and described fully in the legally binding license agreement between us. Additionally, we reserve the right to limit some or all of the product capability should the node count be exceeded.

How do I add additional nodes on top of my 5 free?

The program has been designed so you can get started with Business Edition quickly and easily. If you need additional Nodes, please visit our pricing page.

Are 5 Nodes Free users supported?

Our 5 nodes free users can get support via Portainer on GitHub.
